For patients who may experience treatment anxiety during periodontal treatments or procedures, we offer sedation options to reduce anxiety and provide as much comfort as possible during your visit. Oral sedation is a popular option for our patients because they can administer the medication on their own in the form of a pill. Those who have a fear of needles are good candidates for this method of sedation.
Oral sedatives are from a group of drugs known as Benzodiazepines. These medications provide a deep level of relaxation and are usually taken the night or the morning before the procedure.
When under oral sedation, you MUST have someone drive you to and from your appointment and be readily available during your appointment in the event of an emergency. It is also recommended that someone stay with you for several hours after you return home until the effects of the sedative wear off.
Our intention is for our patients surgical experience to be as comfortable and pain-free as possible. We look forward to helping you achieve better dental health, and strive for you to have a positive treatment experience.
