For patients who may experience treatment anxiety during periodontal treatments or require surgery, we offer sedation options to reduce anxiety and provide as much comfort as possible during your visit. IV (intravenous) conscious sedation is an option for Cary Periodontics and Implant Dentistry patients. This is a highly effective method where sedative medications are administered directly into the blood stream.

Your procedure and IV sedation will be administered in the office by the doctor and/or a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA). During IV conscious sedation, just enough of the sedative medication is given to allow patients to be completely calm and relaxed while still being able to talk and interact with the dental team.IV conscious sedation is not general anesthesia. To learn more about IV conscious sedation for your procedure, ask the periodontist or the staff.

When IV sedation is being administered, you MUST have someone drive you to and from your appointment and be readily available during your appointment in the event of an emergency. It is also recommended that someone stay with you for several hours after you return home until the effects of the sedative wear off.

Our intention is for our patients surgical experience to be as comfortable and pain-free as possible. We look forward to helping you achieve better dental health, and strive for you to have a positive experience.
