Every flu season is different and influenza can affect people differently, but millions of people get the flu every year and hundreds of thousands are hospitalized. An annual seasonal flu vaccine is the best way to protect against flu.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has issued recommendations that everyone 6 months and older should be vaccinated for influenza, ideally by the end of October. Experts recommend becoming vaccinated before flu season begins to have full immune benefits, because after receiving the flu shot it takes on average two weeks to develop the antibodies needed to protect against flu infection.
